Sustainable fashion — To me, is where the industry will have to go in the near future in order to survive. I believe everything in life is interconnected and fashion is not exempt from that; it’s our duty to find better methods so we can not only improve the health of our plant, but also ourselves.
I believe the consumers’ mindset is one of the biggest challenges faced by the industry in becoming sustainability. Consumers are inclined towards buying the latest trends and don’t wish to pay a major price for the same. This has given rise to fast fashion. Clothes worth 140 million Euros are sent to landfills every year. Most of these clothes are made up of fibers that will not decay. One of the biggest culprit of fashion industry is ’fast fashion’. Clothes available on demand at cheaper prices. Fast fashion is putting our planet at risk.
In recent years, people started knowing what sustainability is. As consumers are aware that the food they consume should be chemical free. Now they are shifting their focus from food to other sustainable way of living as well. They are changing their purchase behavior focusing on creating cleaner environment through clothes they wear.
Women are tech savvy than ever, they not only pay attention to the quality of their garments but also the entire life cycle of garments . Now they are aware about the word ‘sustainable’, it’s real meaning and impact.
